Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has achieved another major milestone by making his debut for the Indian cricket team. The young star received his first India cap in the T20I against England at Old Trafford after being picked ahead of Sanju Samson. Although he scored only 14 runs from 10 balls, he showed glimpses of his talent and impressed fans with his fearless batting.
Now that Vaibhav has started his international career, many fans are asking one big question – when will he receive a BCCI central contract? Here is everything you need to know.
Vaibhav’s Dream Comes True Moment
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s dream of playing for India became a reality when he made his international debut. The youngster has been one of the most talked-about cricketers in recent months, and the team management finally gave him the opportunity. Even though his innings was short, he played with confidence and showed why he is considered one of India’s brightest young talents.
BCCI Now Has Three Contract Categories
The BCCI recently changed its central contract system. Earlier, there was an A+ category for players who played all three formats regularly. After the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from some formats, the board removed the A+ category. Now, players are placed in three categories:
What Vaibhav Must Do to Get a Central Contract?
Getting a BCCI central contract is not automatic. Every player has to meet the board’s eligibility rules. To qualify for a central contract, a player must play at least 3 Test matches, 8 ODIs, or 10 T20Is in one season. If Vaibhav plays 10 T20Is for India before next year’s contract announcement, he will become eligible for a Grade C central contract.

| Grade | Annual Salary | Eligibility/Details |
|---|---|---|
| Grade A | ₹5 Crore | Top-performing players selected by the BCCI |
| Grade B | ₹3 Crore | Regular members of the Indian team |
| Grade C | ₹1 Crore | Players who meet the minimum eligibility criteria |
Current Grade A Players
The current Grade A players in the BCCI central contracts are:
Shubman Gill
Jasprit Bumrah

Each of these players earns ₹3 crore per year under the BCCI contract.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already taken the first big step by making his India debut. If he continues to perform well and gets enough chances in the coming months, he could soon complete the required number of T20Is.
If that happens, the teenage star is expected to earn his first BCCI central contract and become one of the youngest players to receive the honour.
